The year 2024 is coming to a close and Apple is bidding farewell with its list of the most downloaded platforms on its devices: the iPhone and iPad.
This includes both free and paid releases on all Apple devices and while plenty of the names that made it big are no surprises, there are a few that took some people by shock.
For instance, one of the most controversial names that made it big is the Chinese shopping app Temu. As per the survey, many did turn to the platform for shopping but the brand was highlighted as being untrustworthy by quite a few. This includes customer loyalty and mishandling complaints giving them poor star ratings. Other than that, it was accused of mishandling user data which again is another controversial topic, considering the recent TikTok ban.
In terms of the most downloaded paid platform on iPhones, the award went to the famous proxy app Shadowrocket. It’s mostly used for redirecting device traffic. Therefore, it shares many of the same benefits as VPN platforms. Moreover, it’s a very popular option and also lands the top three spots in lists for top paid iPad platforms.
Coming down to apps that made it big on the iPad, it was most of the usual social media giants. This includes YouTube, Max, Disney Plus, Netflix, Chrome, TikTok, and Google. Many of the same names popped up for free download options on iPhones including Threads, Instagram, WhatsApp, and ChatGPT. Meanwhile, the game charts featured interesting snippets. Block Blast that’s very much like Tetris made it big as did Monopoly Go, Roblox, and Call of Duty.
In terms of paid gaming platforms, it was Minecraft and Geometry Dash in second place for iPads. For free iPad games, Roblox won hands down and again it didn’t surprise many at all. On the other hand, Apple also shared the download figures for the Apple Arcade subscription. This is where games work across different devices on Apple including phones and PCs. The most popular was certainly the NBA 2K24 Arcade Edition followed up closely by Snake.io+ and Hello Kitty.
So as you can see, most of the lists were dominated by famous or reputable names. However, it also showcased how several viral hits did squeeze their way into the top ten. Hence, those on the lookout for the latest game or platform might want to browse further to see what other thing catches the eye.
